About Me
Welcome to the portfolio of Madhu Jalli, who works and lives in india.
Why am I a sculptor?
Sculpting has been a primal art form in the evolution of human civilization. Man never stopped making or admiring sculpture since the stone age to the present day. This is a continuous dedication of man (I use the word ‘man’ to mean woman too).
Why does man erect sculpture? What is the point of it? Why has sculpture endured as an art form over centuries? There are many answers. It has been used to create icons for a place or a kingdom or as warnings to the enemy. It has been used to shock, impress, and make people happy. It has always been used to convey a grand idea. But, the most fundamental of the explanations is that every sculpture is a message. Message about what? It is about the bond between man and his relationship with the Universe. Some even say, it is about the bond between man and the divine, or God. In any case, sculpture is man’s attempt at declaring his existence in the context of the limitlessness and mystery that is there both inside and outside of his mind.
From a physical standpoint, apart from other forms of art, sculpture has a significant quality. Sculpture withstands the natural challenges of sun, wind, and rain. But sculpture is one art form that has also survived the greatest and evilest of all forces on this planet. Ironically, it is the force that creates it too. Man himself. Sculpture withstands man’s pride and envy. In some situations, sculpture could be demolished by war and turn into ashes because of conflicts between generations. But, when sculpture remains forever in time, even when the generation that had created it were gone, that is not only possible due to physical quality of sculpture but also because the sculpture has won the heart of people. This is the final bond between man and sculpture that I live for. This is why I believe that sculpture is vehicle for providing peace in this world of ours.
At this particular moment, many sculptors are busy making sculpture with a lot of dedication. I am one of them. I am Madhu Jalli and I want to spread peace in the world by making sculpture, all my life.
